Choice quote from Mark Driscoll’s new book on marriage:
In this season we shifted into ministry-and-family mode, neglecting our intimacy and failing to work through our issues. This became apparent to me when my pregnant wife came home from a hair appointment with her previously long hair that I loved chopped off and replaced with a short, mommish haircut. She asked what I thought, and could tell by the look on my face. She had put a mom’s need for convenience before being a wife. She wept.
I can’t believe this is real.

In fairness I don’t know a man, religion has nothing to do with this, that actually likes it when a woman cuts her long hair short. I mean I know they exist, but I haven’t met any.

Holy shit. This is really a thing?
Setting aside even the inanity of making hair length an issue, did Mark Driscoll just set up a false dichotomy between being a good wife and being a good mother?

I… buh… wha— hunh? He decided he didn’t like it, OK. Then he made her feel bad about it (on the basis of some faux “morality”)? *Then* he decided to publicly shame her to make— no point whatsoever?
This man needs counseling.

Respect is important in any theological discourse. I’m an Anglican and I find this incredibly offensive. Were I to consider myself an Evangelical I think I might also find this offensive and embarrassing.

What was the moral of this story? Does he think that motherhood is at odds with wifehood? Is he in favor of polygamy so that as each wife becomes a mom and hence “mommish” he has a new sexy young thing?

My wife’s short hair speaks of her rampant disregard for the Bible and her lack of love for me. Thank Pastor Mark for me next time you see him. I sure do hope her hair grows back without medical intervention.
